Christopher Christopher

Christopher is presently Associate Professor of Corporate and Commercial Law at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Somerville College, Oxford, where he has taught since 2012. He has previously held teaching positions at Jesus College, Cambridge (2000-2005) and the University of Auckland (2005-2012).

Before academia, Christopher completed his pupillage and was a junior tenant at 3 Verulam Buildings dealing with general commercial and corporate disputes and specializing in all aspects of banking litigation, including appearing in the House of Lords (Phillips v Brewin Dolphin Bell Lawrie Ltd [2001] 1 WLR 143). During his time in New Zealand, he advised and appeared in High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court cases (Nathan v Dollars & Sense Ltd [2008] 2 NZLR 557).

Academic expertise in all aspects of retail banking, mis-selling litigation, lending and security, syndicated lending and bond issues and trade finance.

Corporate Law

Academic expertise in all areas of company law, particularly the law relating to directors’ duties and shareholder remedies.

insolvency and bankruptcy

Academic expertise in all areas of corporate insolvency and personal bankruptcy, with previous litigation experience including the House of Lords decision in Phillips v Brewin Dolphin Bell Lawrie Ltd [2001] 1 WLR 143 dealing with transactions at an undervalue.
