Ian has been practising in the area of health and safety prosecution and defence for a number of years, having been defence counsel in R v F Howe & Sons Ltd which remains the leading sentencing authority.
He is on the Attorney Generals 'A' List for health and safety prosecution and has advised and prosecuted in a wide range of fatal and non-fatal cases on behalf of the HSE, the CPS and local authorities.
His defence work includes manslaughter and the recent successful defence of a furniture company charged with being responsible for the death of a contractor who fell through the roof of their premises. He has also been particularly concerned in the area of directors’ and executives personal responsibilities under s.37, and the problems that arise when corporate defendants go into liquidation.
