Pupillage

Our commitment to our pupils begins on day one.

We consider all of our pupils as potential tenants; it is in our interests as well as theirs to ensure solid professional development and satisfaction. The number of pupillages that we offer and the disciplines in which we offer them vary from year to year.

We will be inviting applications, via OLPAS, in March 2010 for our 2011 intake and will be recruiting up to two pupils. Candidates should state their preferred area of specialisation within Chambers.

Each pupil receives a grant of £15,000 for the first six months, and guaranteed earnings of £15,000 for the second six months.

We offer our pupils:

Selection
Our selection process aims to be rigorous and fair, and to comply with the Bar Council Pupillage Guidelines and Equality Code. We select pupils on ability and potential alone, without regard to disability, gender, race, age and sexual orientation or political affiliation.

How to apply
We are a member of OLPAS and presently recruit in its Summer Season. Applications for pupillage will therefore only be accepted online through that scheme. Please check with OLPAS for the deadlines for applications for pupillages commencing 2011. Applications for pupillages commencing in 2010 are now closed.

Unsolicited applications outside this scheme will be returned.

After reviewing the OLPAS applications, we usually interview candidates in July of that year.

The first point of contact for pupillage information is Ewan Paton.

Two of Guildhall Chambers' barristers provide commentary, Stephen Davies QC writes about the 'View from the Queen's Counsel and the Judiciary' while Christopher Quinlan refers to the project set up by the University of the West of England which helps disadvantaged 14 year old students in Bristol who have demonstrated an interest in law.
