The 2024 Chambers Pro Bono Framework was established by Advocate, the Bar’s national pro bono charity. It provides the opportunity for all chambers in England and Wales. This allows them to demonstrate their commitment to undertaking pro bono work and improving access to justice.
Guildhall Chambers’ Framework report for 2024 has been produced by Advocate. It is based on the data we provided and that of other Framework sets. You can read the report here. Of the 45 sets which signed up to the Chambers Pro Bono Framework in 2024, Guildhall was one of 17 with between 50 and 100 members. 23% of our members took on pro bono work in 2024. This put us sixth amongst chambers of that size.
The report contains three compelling “pro bono in action” statements. These are from members of Guildhall Chambers. They describe their experience of undertaking this work.
It is very encouraging to see almost a quarter of our barristers contributing to what is, albeit regrettably, a wholly necessary aspect of helping to provide access to justice in our society. As one applicant for pro bono support told Advocate:
“…you give the less fortunate a voice in the world and in the legal system. You should all be proud in touching the lives of many when they need help. You help make our bit of the world a better place. You certainly have made our small bit of the world better by your involvement.”
