Dr Anna Williams specialises in Employment & Discrimination law. She has been instructed to appear in multi-day employment tribunal proceedings as well as appeals before the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

Anna joined Guildhall Chambers following successful completion of her specialist Employment & Discrimination Pupillage and has experience in all aspects of practice in the fields of Employment & Discrimination law. She has been commended on the thoroughness of her work and the maturity of her advocacy. In addition to practice, Anna undertakes extensive academic work in the fields of employment law and contract law.

Expertise

Anna takes instructions in all areas of Employment & Discrimination law, acting for both claimants and respondents. She has been instructed in multi-day employment tribunal hearings and has appeared unled before the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

Through her practice and academic work, Anna is well-placed to assist with complex employment law issues, including those with a human rights dimension.

She welcomes instructions in related fields, such as matters before the Special Educational Needs (SEND) Tribunal, and civil Equality Act claims.

L v Ministry of Defence [2025] EAT 197

Julian Allsop and Anna Williams represented the Ministry of Defence in joined appeals before the Employment Appeal Tribunal. They were part of a legal team that included Niazi Fetto KC and Harry Peto of 2 Temple Gardens. The appeals concerned the scope of disability discrimination protections under the Equality Act 2010 in relation to service in the armed forces in light of the Human Rights Act 1998. 


Edwards v Ministry of Defence [2024] ICR 687

Julian Allsop and Anna Williams, led by Adam Tolley KC, successfully appeared on behalf of the Ministry of Defence in an appeal concerning service in the armed forces, service complaints and the Equality Act 2010, and Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights.


Bennett v MiTAC Europe Ltd [2022] IRLR 25

Successfully represented the Appellant in an appeal raising various issues, including associative discrimination and knowledge of disability prior to a cancer diagnosis.

Anna gladly takes instructions to appear in the Civil Courts, particularly in matters with an employment law dimension.

Anna is a Career Development Fellow at Trinity College, Oxford. She holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford. Her DPhil thesis was titled ‘Labour Law in Strasbourg’ and it focussed on Articles 4 and 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Her work was supported by a Barnett Bequest Scholarship and a Modern Law Review Scholarship.

She teaches or has taught employment law, contract law, tort, and A Roman Introduction to Private Law. She is currently Course Lead for, and teaches on, the Oxford University Astrophoria Foundation Year in Law. She co-convenes the Oxford Law Faculty’s Labour Law Discussion Group.

Anna has several publications in the areas of employment law and contract law:

In addition, Anna has experience as a research assistant in the field of contract law, including work on Chitty on Contracts. Anna has contributed to reports for WorkSafe (New Zealand’s health and safety regulator) and the New Zealand Accident Compensation Corporation.
