Michelle Kafe is a pupil barrister in the Crime team and supervised by Alistair Haggerty

She studied law at the University of Bristol before completing her bar course in London.

During her studies, she volunteered as a researcher with the Human Rights Law Clinic in Bristol, researching the prohibition and prevention of torture and other ill-treatment in Africa. As an intern for Advocates for International Development (A4ID), Michelle worked with international development stakeholders to support pro-bono legal and judicial expertise in countries where this is needed most.

As a volunteer for the World Bank’s Global Partnership for Education, Michelle relentlessly advocated for the right to education for girls in low-income countries. Her activism for quality education was acknowledged by the Gates Foundation, where she was selected to join the ‘Goalkeepers’ community. She has worked collaboratively with the government’s Girls Education Department on foreign policy, striving towards equitable solutions to end the global education crisis. This has involved lobbying MPs in Parliament and advising the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). Michelle has also interned at the Cabinet Office, where she researched policy relating to national risks. She particularly enjoyed simplifying complex climate policy, drafting briefs, and collating research on international comparators.
