Insolvency Webinar Series - PART TWO

17 Jun, 2020

PART TWO
Date: Wednesday 17 June 2020
Time: 2:00pm (1 hour)
Venue: Comfort of your living room
Cost: Free

On 20 May 2020, the Government published the Corporate Insolvency and Governance Bill 2020, which represents the most significant insolvency reform for 20 years. The principal purpose of this legislation is twofold.

First, it effects permanent changes which have been anticipated since 2018 by introducing two new insolvency procedures and providing greater protection of supplies of goods and services in insolvency.

Second, it introduces a number of temporary measures which have been trailed by the Government in recent weeks designed to tackle the effects of Covid 19 (including restrictions on winding-up proceedings and the suspension of liability for wrongful trading).

The Bill is expected to pass the House of Commons on 3 June 2020 and be enacted shortly thereafter.

As part of our new webinar series, Guildhall Chambers’ specialist Insolvency Team will be providing essential expert guidance on these legislative changes.

For Part Two of our webinar series, Samuel Parsons will be joined by Robert Niles-Weed of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP (New York) to discuss what long-lasting effects we might expect from the legislation, comparing and contrasting it with the legislation and experiences of Chapter 11 on the other side of the Atlantic.
