The eleventh edition of Preston & Newsom’s Restrictive Covenants Affecting Freehold Land (Sweet & Maxwell) is now published

20/11/2020

Congratulations to George Newsom and Ewan Paton on the publication of the new edition of Preston & Newsom’s Restrictive Covenants Affecting Freehold Land (Sweet & Maxwell). Seven years on from the last edition, this 11th edition incorporates over 100 new Upper Tribunal and appeal decisions on section 84 covenant modification; major case law developments on injunctions, damages and schemes of development; and statutory changes including the new Upper Tribunal forms and Practice Directions.

First published by George’s father and Cecil Preston in 1939, jointly then solely edited by George since 1976 until his recent retirement, and now with Ewan stepping in to complete it, the book is recognised as one of the leading texts on the subject in the common law world.

It has already been chosen as Wildy’s “Book of the Month”, and we hope it will adorn the bookshelves of many property lawyers throughout the world.

As a Sweet & Maxwell/Thomson Reuters publication, it will also be a resource available electronically for those with a Westlaw subscription, fully readable and searchable online, with hyperlinked case citations to facilitate swift research.
