Mini Pupillage

Undertaking a mini-pupillage at Guildhall Chambers provides an opportunity to experience all elements of life as a barrister including being in court, observing conferences with lay clients and instructing solicitors, and reviewing and discussing legal documents.

Due to the high number of applications we receive each year, we cannot accommodate everyone and therefore we are unable to consider applicants who have not yet begun the second year of their law degree or who have not yet started their law conversion course.
Please note that we are unable to offer work-experience placements to school students. There are some opportunities available for Year 12 and 13 students that you can see on the Bar Council’s webpage on becoming a barrister I am a school or college student, including open days and insight events.  Also take a look at the Bar Placement Scheme, through which the Bar Council centrally organises placements with selected chambers.

Applications for mini-pupillage in 2026 are now closed and all 34 places have been allocated.

Mini-Pupillage 2027

The window for applications for mini-pupillage in 2027 will open in November 2026 – please check this webpage for information at that time.

We again expect to offer about 30 mini-pupillages in 2027 across all our areas of practice.

Mini-pupillages with our Crime Team will be run on a range of dates throughout April, June/July and September, arranged with the individual candidate, during which you will spend up to three days with one or more of our expert criminal barristers, with the opportunity to attend court and discuss cases with the barrister, as well as meeting other Members of Chambers and our clerks, and witnessing life in Chambers.

Mini-pupillages with our Civil Teams will take place in three specific periods in June, July and September.  Each session will be for a number of mini-pupils across our three principal civil teams: “PRINSCOM” (Property, Trusts & Estates; Insolvency & Restructuring; and Commercial law); Employment & Discrimination; and Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence. The three days will be spent both working individually with one or more barristers expert in your chosen practice area, and also in group discussions, with the opportunity to take part in an advocacy exercise guided by our barristers.  You will also meet other Members of Chambers, our clerks and some of our current pupils.
