1 May, 2020

Please find at the link below our Crime Team newsletter which considers emergency legislation issued during the coronavirus crisis and the present and future challenges of remote hearings.

Since drafting, the NPCC has issued further guidance to police which can be found here:  https://www.college.police.uk/Documents/COVID-19-Policing-Brief-Health-Regs-280420.pdf

Following the Prime Minister’s address on Sunday 10 May and subsequent announcements, The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2020 come into force on 13 May.
They can be viewed here:  http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/500/pdfs/uksi_20200500_en.pdf

They effect important amendments to reg,6 (restrictions on movement) and reg.10 (penalties); the newsletter should be read in the light thereof.

The amended regulations are accompanied by new NPCC guidance here for England - https://www.college.police.uk/What-we-do/COVID-19/understanding-the-law/Documents/Health-Protection-Regulations-Amendments-England-changes-130520.pdf
