Geraint joined Guildhall’s Employment and Discrimination team following completion of his specialist pupillage in September 2015. He acts for claimants and respondents in the employment tribunal, as well as handling associated matters in the civil courts.   

Employment & Discrimination

Geraint acts for claimants and respondents in all areas of employment tribunal litigation. He provides an expert, comprehensive and practical advocacy and advice service. Geraint is sensitive to the difficulties facing clients when embroiled in litigation, and ensures that they receive realistic and objective analysis, as well as robust performance in their case.

Geraint is instructed to take multi-day hearings, deal with preliminary matters and apply for strike outs and deposit orders. He is experienced in dealing with discrimination claims, being able to advise on strategy, merits and settlements.

Recent Cases

  • Successfully defended a claim of unlawful disability discrimination following a 4-day hearing.
  • Defended a claim of unlawful deductions from wages, successfully arguing that the contractual provisions were not penalty clauses.
  • Represented a vulnerable claimant in the employment tribunal following his summary dismissal because of alleged gross misconduct, obtaining findings of unfair and wrongful dismissal whilst successfully batting-off the respondent's Polkey and contributory conduct arguments.
  • Represented a claimant nurse who was withheld wages by her employer, successfully establishing her claim.
  • Made applications for strike outs and deposit orders.

Civil Litigation

Geraint is instructed to appear in the civil courts in a broad range of areas.

Recent Cases

  • Obtaining costs against another party over and above the usual fixed costs regime.
  • Successfully established a final charging order in the High Court following 3 separate hearings.
  • Successfully obtaining a finding of contributory negligence in a road traffic claim.
