Professional Discipline

Guildhall Chambers’ Professional Discipline barristers are highly respected across Bristol and the South West for their work in relation to their professional disciplinary and fitness to practise procedures.

Working across Guildhall Chambers’ many specialist teams, we are best known for our Professional Discipline advocacy and advice in Employment & Discrimination and Clinical Negligence matters. This is closely linked to our well-respected Inquests practice.

Members act for defence solicitors, insurers/indemnity providers, professional regulatory bodies (such as the MPTS (formerly the GMC), GDC, NMC, HCPC and GOC), NHS bodies, employers and for individuals facing proceedings before them.

Members of Guildhall Chambers’ Professional Discipline team are experts in dealing with disciplinary proceedings in all professions and at all levels, from healthcare and education sectors, to assisting police officers. In addition we are able to deal skilfully and efficiently with all stages of disciplinary proceedings of any type, from employers’ internal investigations and disciplinary procedures to proceedings before regulators and appeals. Barristers at Guildhall Chambers appear at all the major regulatory forums with some sitting as Legal Assessors.

The depth of experience we bring, from appearing at Interim Orders Panels through to multi-day, complicated, substantive hearings, dealing with a wide range of misconduct, competence and health cases, to cases in the Court of Appeal, makes us one of the most effective and respected Professional Discipline Sets outside of London.
