On behalf of the BPC Bristol Forum, we’d like to invite you along to the third of our series of seminars in Bristol, put together by various members of the BPC community.
The theme for the third event is liability and relief in equity with a focus on recent developments and will be held at Womble Bond Dickinson’s offices (Temple Quay, 3 Temple Back E, Redcliffe, Bristol, BS1 6DZ), on 9 July 2025, with the programme as follows:
5:00-5:30 – Joining
5:30-5:40 – Chair’s address (The Honourable Mr Justice Michael Green)
5:40-6:10 – Recovery of Assets: Vindication, Unjust Enrichment and Equity – Modern developments in electronic banking and the emergence of digital assets pose significant challenges for practitioners, especially where funds and assets go astray. This talk will address the latest developments in the recovery of cryptoassets, which has thrown up a remarkable variety of cases, together with the on-going legacy of so-called authorised push payment fraud. The various bases of claim and defences are addressed, together with practical issues. Statutory and regulatory measures will be addressed where they have a role to play. (Gerard McMeel KC, Quadrant Chambers and Professor of Commercial and Financial Law at the University of Reading)
6:10-6:40 – Rukhadze v Recovery Partners: strict liability and account of profits – This talk will address the recent decision of the Supreme Court in this landmark ruling on the liability of fiduciaries to account for profits (James Pearce-Smith, St John’s Chambers)
6:40-7:15 – Close and drinks and nibbles
