Alastair Prince is a barrister in the Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence and Costs teams. He successfully completed his pupillage in October 2023, under the supervision of Martin Lanchester.
Alastair regularly appears in court, where he is rapidly building a reputation as a sought-after advocate, acting successfully against barristers often several years his call. He has an eye for detail in his paperwork practice, providing clear and methodical advice, and is confident grappling with complex issues of law and procedure.
Developing from his personal injury and clinical negligence practice, Alastair welcomes instructions in inquests, costs and disciplinary and regulatory matters.
Alastair has a busy personal injury practice and is regularly instructed on behalf of both claimants and defendants in a wide variety of cases, including road traffic accidents, employers’ liability, occupiers’ liability, product liability and Highways Act cases. He is particularly adept with quantum arguments, often beating Part 36 offers for both claimants and defendants.
Alastair is frequently instructed both at trial and on interlocutory applications, including for relief from sanctions, pre-action disclosure, and applications to rely upon further evidence. Alastair is also very experienced both with drafting pleadings and advising on liability and quantum.
Alastair has advised and acted in multiple civil actions against the police on a pro-bono basis and is keen to develop his practice in this area further.
Alastair is experienced across the spectrum of clinical negligence, including birth injuries, misdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis, pressure sores and surgical mistakes.
Prior to joining the Bar, Alastair gained substantial experience in complex and high-value clinical negligence cases assisting partners at top national solicitors’ firms, including acting for both claimants and defendants.
During pupillage Alastair built on this further, drafting pleadings and advices involving intricate legal and factual issues.
As a personal injury and clinical negligence specialist, Alastair is familiar with all aspects of costs as they relate to these cases, and has dealt with a variety of costs issues in his personal injury practice, including the applicability of QOCS in Part 20 claims, and Part 36 consequences. Alastair is keen to develop his costs practice further in this area.
Alastair was involved in a number of inquests during pupillage, including assisting on a two week jury inquest and is particularly keen to develop his practice in this area.
