Jack joined the Commercial team in October 2024 and has a diverse practice covering a range of commercial, company, property and insolvency matters. He regularly advises and represents clients in cases in the County Court and High Court and has experience in arbitration.

Before coming to the bar, Jack worked as a legal consultant for a commercial litigation firm, advising on complex fraud, sport and construction disputes. Notably, he assisted Cardiff City Football Club in its claim for £100m against Nantes Football Club before the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the Swiss Federal Court.

Jack graduated top of his year in his undergraduate law degree. A fluent French speaker, he spent a year abroad in which he earned a French law degree with high honours. He then completed postgraduate studies specialising in commercial law, graduating with distinction. His thesis was published in the European Review of Private Law.

During law school, Jack was a researcher at the International Institute for the Unification of Private law, where he prepared reports on finance law concerning securities in the mining, agriculture and construction industries.

Expertise

Jack has provided drafting, representation and advisory services in commercial disputes, acting for and against consumers, agents, professionals and tenants. Most of his cases raise industry-specific issues as to scope of duty, quantification of loss and unfair terms. By way of example:

  • Drafting Defences to claims by a sports agent against international rugby players for unpaid commission.
  • Drafting pleadings and representing a purchaser of a defective Ferrari in a claim against a car dealership.
  • Drafting Particulars of Claim for compensation against a hirer for damage to the engine of a commercial vehicle.

  • Drafting witness statements to resist the Part 71 examination and eventual enforcement of a £10m judgment for debt.
  • Advising on and drafting an application to stay execution of and set aside a judgment against an electricity supplier.
  • Advising on defending claim for finder fees by a commodities introducer.
  • Assisting (during pupillage) in advising on the merits of a negligence claim against Ferrari arising from the defective design of the 458 Spider model.

Jack has advised and represented clients in complex misrepresentation, negligence and breach of contract disputes with professionals and contractors in relation to a range of construction, energy and infrastructure projects. His work involves technical subject matter often considered by expert witnesses and includes:

  • Drafting a letter before claim against engineers for the failure of a £650,000 air dome.
  • Advising on alleged negligence in the project management of wind-turbine construction.

  • Drafting pleadings, Scott Schedule and witness statements in a claim for defective installation of marble tiles.

Jack’s practice also extends to company law and insolvency proceedings, advising, drafting and appearing in relation to:

  • Breach of director duties to the company and creditors. Jack has, for example, advised car manufacturing companies as to their ability to transfer telematics data to other entities.
  • Shareholder disputes; in particular, unfair prejudice petitions brought by shareholders under section 994 of the Companies Act 2006.
  • Setting aside statutory demands.
  • Injunctions to restrain the presentation/advertisement of winding up petition.
  • Applications under the clawback provisions of the Insolvency Act 1986.
  • Applications for contribution by directors.
