Jennifer Edwards is a barrister in the Commercial and Insolvency teams.

She welcomes instructions across all aspects of commercial and insolvency law, acting in both litigation and advisory matters. Jennifer appears regularly in the High Court and the County Court and has experience at all stages of proceedings, from pre‑action advice and interim applications through to trial.

She is known for delivering commercially astute advice in a clear and incisive manner. She is also a regular speaker at conferences and training events, delivering practical and accessible presentations on commercial and insolvency topics. Prior to coming to the Bar, Jennifer worked in the technology sector.

She holds a first-class degree in Mathematics, a background that underpins her analytical approach and her ease with financially and technically complex cases.

Expertise

Jennifer has a busy and growing insolvency practice and is frequently instructed in contested corporate and personal insolvency proceedings.

Her recent insolvency work includes:

  • Successfully resisting an application to restrain the presentation of a winding‑up petition in the High Court in Helios Energia Ltd v IBM United Kingdom Financial Services Ltd [2025] EWHC 1513 (Ch)
  • Acting for creditors, debtors, and trustees in contested High Court insolvency applications, including:
    • Applications to restrain presentation of winding‑up petitions
    • Validation orders
    • Bankruptcy petitions
    • Applications to annul bankruptcy orders
  • Appearing in contested applications for final charging orders, including under s.346(6) Insolvency Act 1986

Jennifer is regularly instructed where urgent interim relief, detailed financial analysis and firm strategic decision‑making are required.

Jennifer’s commercial practice spans a wide range of contractual and commercial disputes, with particular experience in cases involving jurisdictional issues, funding arrangements and company disputes. Jennifer also has experience providing advice on professional negligence matters.

Recent commercial work includes:

  • Drafting advice on jurisdiction in the context of an international contractual dispute
  • Advising on whether an agreement fell within s.58AA Courts and Legal Services Act 1990, concerning damages‑based agreements
  • Appearing in trials, acting for both claimants and defendants
  • Drafting spoiler notices for the Court of Appeal
  • Advising on applications for security for costs
